A charming, quick-to-knit Christmas tree applique that can be decorated as desired. Tannenbaum 2 uses approx. 22 yards of fingering weight yarn, and measures 5” at the base and 6.25” tall, after blocking.

Tannenbaum 2 features a lacey open-work pattern with a lovely scalloped bottom edge.

It’s fun to embellish the Tannenbaums: Try beads, sequins, embroidered French knots, mini light bulbs or jingle bells from a crafts store, or sparkly yarn or tinsel.

To use the tree as a hanging ornament, apply a light coat of fabric adhesive to the back of the applique; when dry, thread a loop of yarn through the top for hanging.

Tannenbaum appliques also are perfect for making greeting cards: Simply attach the finished piece to cardstock with adhesive dots or crafts glue. And if you’re sending a Tannenbaum card to a fellow knitter, make it extra special by attaching a fabulous stitch marker as a “tree topper.”

The pattern includes both written and charted instructions, and has been professionally tech edited.

Stitch Marker Greeting Card Kits, which include just about everything you need to make an embellished Tannenbaum card, as well as stitch markers and other embellishments, are available in my Etsy shop at www.etsy.com/shop/knitifacts.
