Tectum - Deep Within The Hive Cowl
Tectum - means a cover or shield - it is also the word for cell, as in the cells of the honeycomb.
Pattern is both written and charted - with US and metric equivalents.
A dual sided reversible cowl with different and unique texture on each side.
Works up fast with extra super bulky yarn and big needles.
Simple to knit slipped lace stitch pattern. The stitch pattern chart/description seems complex but is truly very simple ~ once you’ve done a few reps it nearly knits itself!
Needs blocking for full effect.
90 yd/82 meter of extra super bulky yarn @ 2WPI
~ Sample used 1 hank of Malabrigo Rasta, I highly recommend using the Rasta!
US 17/12.75 mm or US 15/10 mm needles
~ I knit tightly, and used US 17/12.75 mm for sample - if you knit loosely try the US 15/10 mm
Tapestry needle ~ to sew in ends
Blocking wires &/or T-pins
2 (+) pairs of different 1.25” -1.5” (3 - 4 cm) buttons ~ will be sewn together back to back to create ‘anywhere’ buttons
Elastic thread ~ for buttons
Gauge is not critical, but will affect yardage and size!
For yarn/needle selection = 8 sts = 4” (10 cm)
Sample post-blocking measurements = 9” by 29.5” (23 by 75 cm)
