BE ADVISED that a second pattern purchase is required and that due to copyright integrity you will be required to work back and forth between patterns.

This pattern is for a crochet covered and fabric lined jute tote bag that measures 16” W x 17” H with 8” gusset.

The main panel of the bag is a combination of The Crocodile Flower Square and Sophie’s Garden. I have worked hand in hand with both designers and have their permissions to publish and sell this pattern/tutorial.

Pattern includes written instructions for the bag pieces, joining, and sewing and attaching a fabric lining, as well as a detailed photo tutorial for each of the steps. There are also useful notes and links to handy tips and techniques.

NOTE This tutorial is to be used in combination with both the Crocodile Flower Square pattern by Joyce Lewis, which is a PAID pattern that you will have to purchase here, and the Sophie’s Garden pattern (parts 2-4 of Sophie’s Universe) by Dedri Uys,

You will have to purchase/download these patterns to complete this tutorial.

Difficulty Level: Confident Intermediate to Advanced

My pattern testers have determined that this is a workout. I encourage you to read all of the pattern instructions very carefully as you proceed.

Supplies:
•Size E (3.5mm) crochet hook for the main squares.
•Size G (4.25mm) crochet hook for gusset squares, bottom, and joining.
•Several yarns in the colors of your choice. The yardage will depend on the colors that you choose to use throughout. The gauge of this bag is written for worsted weight. (I mix both worsted weight and DK ) Color lists and color changes for the bags pictured are listed on the last pages of the pattern.
•Scissors.
•Large tapestry needle (for sewing in your ends and joining).
•Small tapestry needle (attaching crochet to bag and sewing in bag lining).
•Strong sewing thread (I use extra strong upholstery thread).
•1 yard of fabric for bag lining.
•Sheet of heavy duty template plastic (for stabilizing the bottom of your bag).
•Sewing machine or the ability to sew by hand.
•1 Jute bag size 16” W x 17” H x 8” gusset. (That translates to: 40 x 43 with a 20 gusset in centimeters and 400 x 430 with a 200 gusset in millimeters).

The lovely Kimberly Slifer of Just a Girl and a Hook has also done a fabulous tutorial on how to make your own bag inserts in case you can’t find the right size or want to make the panels a different size.
