There is an error in the instructions for the brim after the instruction to pick up stitches. The book currently reads:

Turn work and p13, pm, pu and k2 sts from the base of rib, turn. Sl1, p back to end pm and k 2 sts from base, turn.

The correct instructions are:

Turn work and p13, pm, pu and p2 sts from the base of rib, turn. Sl1, k back to end, pm, and k 2 sts from base, turn.*

The cap and cowl share the same cable chart. The cap is knit in the round, so each row is knit right to left. The cowl is knitted flat, so the chart rows will alternate right to left on rs rows and left to right on ws rows.
