The Phoenix and the Carpet KAL is a mystery lace knitting club. So far, Janine le Cras has designed mystery shawl KAL patterns inspired by The Secret Garden, The Enchanted Wood, Moonfleet, Through the Looking Glass and The Little Mermaid.

This shawl is designed for fingering weight yarn and can be knit in Luxe, Tinsel Toes, Sushi Socks, Verve, Greensheep Fingering, Green Sheep Cotton Bamboo Fingering or Pashmi or Marici Fingering (for an extra charge). You can choose a regular colorway or one of our Gradiance colorways. You also have the option of including beads. We will be using high quality beads supplied by Earth Faire and will pick out a color that will coordinate with the colorway you choose. Or, you can supply your own beads.

Sign up now and your yarn will be shipped in time for the start date of July 15. The pattern will be emailed to you in pieces. On the first day you’ll receive the instructions for the first part of the pattern. In the following weeks you’ll receive the rest of the pattern, bit by bit. But you won’t see a finished picture of the shawl until the very end!

We’d love to have you join us on this knitting adventure!

Announcements and conversation will take place on the Ravelry group board so please join us there! The designer (Janine le Cras) and the dyers (Kelly Eells and Laura Lough) will be active on the Ravelry board as well as on Plurk to answer questions about the pattern and cheer you on!

If you’d like to add beads to your shawl, you’ll need a very thin crochet hook.

KAL membership can also be purchased through Earth Faire.

You can find the free text of The Phoenix and the Carpet online.

Now that the kAL is over you can purchase the pattern either here in electronic form or from The Unique Sheep in paper form.
