The Pink Silk Moth (eudaemonia argus) is a stunningly colored moth found in tropical regions of Africa. This species is a soft pink shade with vivid yellow-green wing accents and, most notably, wing bottoms that extend into two long, fluttery legs.

The colors and shape of this moth’s natural beauty are captured in this oversized Ruana. This versatile garment can easily transition through all seasons from a summer beach cover-up to a draped cardigan in cooler months. Crocheted in a silk-yak fiber blend and using soft Suri alpaca exclusively for the moth motif, these fibers bring a whole new tactile experience to a typical colorwork project.

You will need:
Approx. 1,600 yards of fingering weight yarn in main color (MC)

Less than 60 yards each in contrast color 2 and 3 (CC2/CC3)

This pattern is written based on measurements and is fully customizable. As the ruana is an oversized style cardigan/cover-up, the pattern includes a one-size-fits-most sample that will fit sizes S (32”-34” chest circumference), M (36”-38”), L (40”-42”), 1X (44”-46”), 2X (48”-50”), 3X (52”-54”), and 4X (56”-58”) comfortably. The pattern also includes instructions to customize the size of your garment. I write my patterns this way to give you the creative freedom to make your project to fit your own size and style preferences.
Sample Size: 32” wide (64” total circumference) x 28” long, blocked

As mentioned, the design is created to have a very oversized fit. If you struggle to match gauge with the sample stitch counts, you can simply measure your work as you go and customize the stitch and row counts. Because of this emphasis on measurements, you can even use other yarn weights for this project, you will just need to have at least 104 sts and 128 rows to fit the moth image on the back panel. If you plan to block your ruana, plan for a slight increase in measurements after blocking.
