“They Say I’m A Witch”

This pattern has been created as part of an Outlander book and knitting group, and is my first pattern inspired by book 1 of the series by Diana Gabaldon that is being read as part of group on Facebook.

This shawl is designed around the traditional Sontag style of the time, being able to be crossed over the breast and then around the waist to tie at the back. This enabled the women to go about their chores and activities without the shawl ends becoming in the way. It provided full upper body warmth and not just around the shoulders.

Its suitable for a beginner who knows the basic skills and provides a piece of work with interest and rhythmic working.

The pattern provides instruction for working the shawl in either Aran/Worsted weight yarn or 4ply/fingering/sock weight.
for the aran version I have used 4 x 166m of yarn
for the fingering weight version I have used 2 x 448m of yarn, but the pattern is suitable for any meterage skeins of 400m and above.

The sizing is the same with both weights.

It’s been inspired by my love of Outlander, the Scottish Highlands and historical clothing and textiles.

I hope you enjoy the making and wearing of the shawl and as always thank you for the support of my work.
