This versatile three-color fair isle pattern would look great in a third-grader’s favorite team colors – or favorite Hogwarts house colors.

Materials:
3 colors of worsted weight wool. In the example, I used Cascade 220 and Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran. You’ll need about 70 yards of two main colors and fewer than 30 yards of the third contrasting color.

16” circular needles, size US 7 (4.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge (I am a loose knitter so in the example, I used size US 6) and additional needles for small-diameter knitting (DPNs, a second circular or a long Magic Loop needle). For a tighter fit around the head, knit the brim in one size smaller needles and then go up a size for the body of the hat.

Gauge:
5.5 stitches/inch in stockinette stitch in the round.
Measurements:

Child-sized: 7.5” from brim to top when measured flat. See guidelines in pattern for sizing up or down.
