In loving memory of Karrie Steinmetz, Knitpurlgurl, who was a big inspiration to me and getting my designs out there.
When I first saw this flower motive pattern it was love at first sight. It reminds me of little thistles, Scotland’s floral emblem, and when knitted in a long row, I believe they have a majestic look. This shawl is dedicated to my good Scottish friend, Julie, and her royal thistles. It is knit from the bottom up starting and ending with lace which is patterned on both right and wrong sides. In between the two lace Patterns stockinette stitch is knit using decreases and short rows to create a delicate crescent shape that gently rests on your shoulders.
The pattern is free if you buy 2 skeins of Skein Silk/Cashmere Lace from Yarn Over Berlin.

Approximate finished dimensions after washing and blocking: 22“/56 cm deep and 72“/183 cm wide.

Skill Level: intermediate

Yarn: Large: Approximately 800 yards (731.5m) lace weight yarn shown in Skein Silk/Cashmere Lace in the Barley colorway bought at Yarn Over Berlin.

Needles: 32” or longer US 7 /4.5 mm for the cast on and US 5/3.75 mm circular needles. This pattern has lace knitting on both right and wrong sides so it would be a good idea to use a very pointy needle to make it easier to get under some of the stitches.

Notions: Waste yarn for a possible lifeline.

Gauge: 15 sts/4 inches after blocking, although gauge is not important, but your final dimensions and yardage requirements may vary if your gauge is different.

Extras
The pattern includes both written directions and graphs.
