This sock pattern is inspired by (but not an exact representation of) the armour worn by Thorin Oakenshield in the recently released Hobbit movies from New Line Cinemas.

It’s a heavily cabled sock with an all-over pattern that absolutely eats yarn, so plan ahead and have extra yardage! That said, I included a wider range of sizing options than I usually do because I think this would make an attractive sock for men or women, teens or adults. Be aware, however, if you are working on an extra-large sock, to have plenty of extra yarn. I would recommend (depending on the length of the foot and leg portions of the sock) between 450 and 500 yards of yarn for the extra-large size.

I hope you enjoy it! :D
