Garter stripes interrupted by bold slipped stitch columns form an interesting structure on the back of the hand. The mitts were inspired by Westknit’s ‘Clockwork Shawl’ and they not only make a nice match to the shawl but they also need only little yarn.

The mitts are knitted in the round with a thumb gusset.

Sizes:
S, M and L to fit hand circumference of approximately 15 (17.75, 20.5) cm 6 (7, 8)”. Length as given in the pattern results in approximately 19 cm (7.5”), adjustable.

Gauge:
28 sts / 58 rows = 10 cm/4” measured over Garter Stitch, lightly blocked, yet unstretched.

The mittens are worked almost entirely in garter stitch, which creates a rather stretchy fabric, so if your hand size is between the sizes given, usually the smaller size will be sufficient.

Material:
Fingering weight yarn with a yardage of about 400 m (440 yds) per 100 g approximately 100 m (110 yds) as main colour and 90 m (100 yds) as contrast colour
2.5 mm / US size 1.5 DPNs or circular needle(s), for your preferred way to knit in the round
3 stitch markers, scrap yarn or stitch holder, darning needle

The English pattern is called ‘Timeline Mitts _ English’
