A NOTE ON GAUGE: The gauge given on this pattern page is written differently than it will be on the pattern. This is because the limitations on the way gauge can be entered here. The pattern will give gauge based on the width and height of 4 repeats of a stitch pattern. This stitch pattern will be given in week 1, so you won’t be able to swatch until then. However you can have fun selecting your colors, and showing them off in the Fans of Through the Loops Ravelry group. Please join us there to participate in the KAL.

About the Design
This year’s TTL Mystery Shawl is a two-color asymmetrical triangle. I recommend a solid or near solid yarn for both colors. I do not recommend highly variegated yarns for this pattern. This pattern will not work well as a single color shawl. However if you’re feeling adventuresome, try playing around with 3 colors. There will be obvious places in the design to add a third color if desired.

The TTL Mystery Shawl 2017 may be worked in any weight yarn, but keep in mind that the heavier the yarn, the more yarn you will need. The sample shawl used approximately 430 yards of color A and approximately 365 of yards of color B of fingering weight of Yarn Carnival Yak Attack. Be sure to allow extra. The amount of yarn needed will vary with slight differences in personal gauge, yarn weight, fiber, and brand (even within same yarn weight category).

Although this is a shawl, it is important to obtain gauge in order to avoid running out of yarn and to have your finished shawl match the size indicated. Adjust needle size as necessary to obtain gauge. The gauge given above is a blocked gauge. The lace pattern for your gauge swatch will be given in clue 1.
