Knit from one side to the other, this slightly asymmetrical triangular shawl follows one turtle’s tracks through the sand. The size of the shawl is somewhat flexible. Continue knitting the tracks until you have at least 33% of your yarn left, and then begin your turtle! You may choose to add beads for eyes if you’d like.

Gauge: 18 sts = 4” (10 cm) in garter st before blocking, 16 sts = 4” (10 cm) in garter st after blocking

Finished size: approximately 84” wide x 18” deep (213 x 46 cm) after blocking

Yarn: Though the pattern calls for DK weight yarn, this shawl has been successfully knit in fingering, DK, and worsted weight yarns…even in multiple colors! The turtle pops best in yarns with more twist to them. Yardage requirements may change based on yarn weight and gauge.

Other materials: stitch markers, cable needle, 2 beads for eyes (optional)

Thank you to all of my testers for their time, feedback, and inspiring yarn combinations! A special thanks goes to SMotoExpress for one last tech edit!

Thank you also to Barbara Walker for her turtle and turtle track designs!

Edit 11/25/15: Version 2 has been uploaded and corrects line 36 of the chart to match the written directions. There should be four purls on either side of the m1l and m1r.
