Description

Twegen, an Old English for “two,” captures the central feature of this design. One simple stitch creates two different looks, producing fluted columns on the front and fluted ribs on the back.

The stitch is easy to execute, knits quickly and is appealing in one or two colors. Working with two colors is straightforward: Only one color is worked on a row and there’s no stranding involved.

The afghan is knit in strips, so work in progress remains compact, portable and comfortable to knit year round. The modified three-needle joining method is attractive, preserves drape and makes seaming simple.

In combination, the stitch and strip strategy accommodate a range of color strategies from monochromatic and tone-on-tone to gradient, ombre and rainbow combinations, effectively transforming virtually any yarn into something pretty and practical.

The pattern is written for worsted weight yarn and includes a handy guide to help you quickly modify width, length and yardage.

Skill Level

Twegen is suited to any knitter who can cast on, knit, purl, slip stitches, pick up stitches and bind off.
