Every baby photographer needs this! And if you are having a baby, YOU are a baby photographer! Permission granted to sell knitted cocoons and pods, too.

The pod makes an incredible photo prop, as does the cocoon, which is also GREAT for swaddling newborns. You can see that there is lots of room for a larger baby, as well.

I used the inexpensive Red Heart Baby Clouds Acrylic Yarn for the white fuzzy egg/pod, and Lion Brand Homespun for the off white cocoon, but you can use any chunky or bulky yarn you like, and it knits up very quickly.

You only need one circular needle and a large-eyed sewing needle to complete either of these items. Each is knit in the round, so you will be using the knit stitch all the way -- VERY EASY!

I have written this pattern with the novice in mind: Very thorough instructions and no abbreviations, and I am available for any advice you need via email.

This is two patterns in one -- both the short bowl or “egg” style and the long “cocoon” or “pea pod”.

Yardage: Allow about 100 yards for the bowl, or about 200 yards for the long cocoon.
