These socks were created to celebrate both my love of mythical creatures, but also the Zombie Knitpocalypse Retreat of 2020. Each year the Stockinette Zombies (Megan Williams and Amy Spinler) throw an amazing party that had to be moved to a virtual platform due to COVID-19. This years’ mascots are a dragon and a unicorn.

I chose the name Unicornucopia for the multitude of colors in the yarn, but also for the multitude of personalities and wonderful people who attend ZK each year. They are the best part of the retreat. The attitude is that nobody eats alone or sits alone (unless they want to) and strangers are friends you haven’t met yet. Like the magical unicorn, the ZK attendees are a force for good, inclusion and diversity.

You, too, can be part of the Unicornucopia- meet a new friend or a new combination of colors. These socks use slip stitches and helical stripes to make unicorns for your feet- complete with sparkle and a fringed mane.

This pattern is written for magic loop.

Materials:
200g of superwash sock yarn (one neutral- CC1 and one gray-rainbow- MC) plus a 20g mini- skein for cuffs and fringe (CC2). My sample uses lolodidit Sparkle Sock in May the Fourth be with You (75% superwash merino wool, 20% nylon, 5% stellina, 100g, 438 yds/410 m), KnitPicks Hawthorne Bare (80% superwash fine highland wool, 20% nylon, 100g, 357 yds/326 m) and a pink mystery scrappy skein (20g).
