Victorian CAL Cloth 3: Belle’s Wheel

March Mystery! There is only 1 ‘clue’; buy this mystery design and make a pretty spring surprise that has so many uses!

The Victorian CAL Cloth 3 will be 50% off the regular low price of $1.95 for 1 full week, NO CODE NEEDED--right up until midnight Pacific Time, March 8th/2015. (Every month, the new CAL Cloth will also be 50% off for a week.)

This cloth is based on the instructions for a “Wheel Tidy” which were sent into a magazine by Belle M. Small of Portland, Maine, in 1887.

When worked in worsted weight yarn with a 4.5 mm hook this cloth is perhaps more suitable as a d’oyley than a washcloth; one motif is approximately 16 inches across when you work all 11 Rounds. It is pretty and useful for your table, to place under a plant or vase, or as a placemat for a summertime patio brunch.

The pattern worked until you finish Round 3 is about 6 inches across and is perfect for either small washcloths or as matching coasters for the larger cloth!

100g of Bernat Handicrafter worsted weight cotton made 1 large and 2 small cloths. I used a 50g ball each of 2 colours; there were only a few yards left (about 3 yards of pink & 12 yards of natural/ecru.

The ball of Bernat Handicrafter Ombres & Marles in blue/green/white was not enough to complete the cloth--there were 2 rounds left to do--but it is lovely as it is, and if you have a single ball of this yarn in your stash it does make a pretty placemat or d’oyley about 12 and 1/2 inches across.
