DK stranded hat with a custom-designed motif that makes the the eye move in pleasing fashion, reminiscent of old china patterns. There is also a pretty spoked motif on the crown.

Can be worn slouchy with the rib down or beanie-style with the brim turned back (will be slouchy either way on younger children as shown in photo on 8 year old). And if you can bear to hide the crown it is just the right shape for a large pompom.

Pattern contains
Pattern is charted only for the colourwork pattern on the rise of the hat. The crown decreases are both written out line by line and charted. Links to tutorials for cast on method and other useful techniques.Hat is worked bottom up in the round and assumes magic loop for the crown decreases. You can substitute your preferred method for working in the round and small circumference knitting.

Yarn & yardage:
This hat is designed for DK or light worsted weight yarn (WPI 11). You will need two colours with good constrast. You can use a colour-changing yarn for the contrast yarn if you like.

I used Adriafil mirage for the MC and jamieson’s double knitting for the (blue) CC. You could substitute any wool or acrylic yarn or yarns you have to hand.
