The socks are crochet from the toe up. Increases in the beginning are crochet in rounds, not joining the rounds (spiral). When cable pattern begins the rounds are joined but still you turn and crochet the next row in the other direction. We leave a hole for the heel. The heel is crochet in rounds afterwards.
Keeping gauge is important since crochet is not that stretchable.
