Westborough is a center-out stockinette lace sweater with sideways garter lace edging with short-row corners, and lace sleeves.
It is knit in one piece starting with a circular cast-on at the center and ending with a knitted on lace edging, like a circular lace shawl. The sleeves are picked up from scrap yarn placeholders , sleeve caps done flat with short-rows, and then knit downwards in the round.
Size is determined by chest circumference, and instructions are given for sizes 38, 44, 48 and 52 inch finished circumference. However, you may place the armholes at a comfortable distance for your back and knit the front in a larger size if desired.
The lace looks best in a plain colored yarn but creative color combinations might look wonderful also. I’ve used Kodiak because it is light weight, drapey and knits at the bulky gauge, but I also worked it in a bulky linen and it was lovely.
Charts only are given for all lace, with additional explanation of short-row corners in words.
As gauge is a personal thing, you can use the center up to the armholes as a gauge swatch and knit to the specified width listed on the schematic to get the best fit in the back. The edging requires a specific number of stitches, so the ending is fixed, but there is a lot of latitude in the sizing. This is such a fun knit that I hope you enjoy it too!
Errata: In Chart 1, rows 37 and 39, left side of chart, there is a missing K2tog before the lone Yo, so please work that when you get there. It should mirror the beginning of the row!
