The name and design for the Westport Blanket is inspired by the old brick buildings that line the streets in the oldest neighborhood in Kansas City…my hometown. Read more about the pattern and its name on my website.

The Westport Blanket is knit with super bulky weight yarn so it is quick to knit on big needles.

Knit flat, in one piece, back and forth on US size 13 circular knitting needles.

DIRECTIONS FOR SIX SIZES:
Approximate sizes after blocking…

Baby: 31” wide x 31” long
Small: 37” wide x 37” long
Medium: 39.5” wide x 40” long
Large: 42.5” wide x 43” long
XL: 48.5” wide x 49” long
XXL: 51.5” wide x 61” long

Any of the blanket sizes may be made longer by adding pattern repeats. Each pattern repeat adds about 3” to the length of the blanket. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make blankets longer.

SUPER BULKY YARN:

Baby: 450 - 475 yards
Small: 630 - 660 yards
Medium: 750 - 810 yards
Large: 860 - 920 yards
XL: 1150 - 1220 yards
XXL: 1550 - 1650 yards

Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your blanket.

This pattern will work well with many super bulky weight yarns.

I used Lion Brand Hometown in the color “Dallas Grey” for the blanket shown in the first couple of photos.

The texture of the pattern will show up best with solid color yarns.

GAUGE:
Garter stitch with US size 13 needles: approximately 8.5 stitches & 14 - 15 rows = 4”

Exact gauge is not essential. However, a significantly different gauge will require more (or less) yarn.

NEEDLES:

In order to accommodate the large number of stitches, long circular needles are highly recommended.

SKILL LEVEL: Easy

This is a good pattern for a confident beginner. You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, read a row by row knitting pattern, bind off stitches and weave in ends. Blocking of finished knitting is recommended.

This pattern uses standard U.S. knitting terms.

Written pattern with row by row instructions.
