I love the graceful downward curve of fir and spruce trees when laden with snow in the winter woods. 1/1 cables form the snowy trees that are scattered across the yoke of this sweater. Worked in one piece from the top down, starting with a provisional cast on, stitches are picked back up to work the short rows that make the neckline fit so nicely. Knit with plenty of ease in real wool yarn, this a comfortable and warm pullover to wear all Winter!

This is an engaging pattern for the experienced knitter. The construction is top-down using provisional cast-on, cables for the yoke design, and short rows for shaping. Pattern includes 5 sizes, a full schematic, and charts for pattern areas. If you prefer not to work from charts, an additional 2 page pdf of the written out directions for the yoke pattern area should be downloaded when you download your pattern. The pattern has had all sizes test knit and has been professionally tech edited to be clear and free of errors.

Sizes: Women’s sizes: S (M, L) (XL, 2X) to fit bust measurements of approximately 32 (36, 40) (44, 48) in/ 81.5 (91.5, 101.5) (112, 122) cm.

Finished Measurements: Bust Circumference: 36 (40, 44) (48, 52) in/ 91.5 (101.5, 112) (122, 132) cm

Designed to be worn as an outer layer with approximately 4 in/ 10 cm or more of positive ease - an overall loose fit similar to a sweatshirt for ease of movement. White sample shown is a size M worn with 4 in/ 10 cm of ease; blue sample is a size L worn with 3 in/ 7.5 cm ease.

Gauge: 21 sts and 30 rnds / 4 in/ 10 cm over stockinette st in the rnd.

What You Need:

  • Briggs and Little Regal (100% wool; 272 yds/ 248 m per 4 oz/113g skein); color: #01 - natural white; 4 (5, 6,) (6, 7) skeins. Or 1075 (1245, 1395) (1530, 1700) yds/ 980 (1135, 1270,) (1395, 1550) m of a similar non-superwash, worsted weight wool yarn. (Blue sample is knit in color #43 - Quoddy Blue.)

  • Needles in three sizes as follows:

Gauge size needles: circular needles in a range of lengths from 16 in/ 40 cm up to 40 in/ 100 cm for  3 smaller sizes and up to 60 in/ 150 cm for 2 larger sizes, in size required to obtain gauge. I used US #5/ 3.75 mm. You may need a size or two above or below that.

Larger than gauge size needles: circular needles one US size larger than gauge size needles in lengths from 24 in/ 60 cm up to 40 in/ 100 cm or 60 in/150 cm depending on sweater size.

Smaller than gauge size needles: one set of dpns plus a 16 in/ 40 cm circular needle one US size smaller than gauge size needle.

  • Mid-size crochet hook for provisional CO. Exact size is not critical. I used US#6 - G/ 4.25 mm.

  • 10 (11, 12) (13, 14) st markers, plus one in a different color or style for end of rnd marker, plus one clip-on type marker or safety pin.

  • small ball of scrap yarn to use for provisional CO and for holding stitches.

  • Large eye tapestry needle.
