This chicken can made with any yarn of your choice. Use a hook that is recommended by a manufacturer. A thicker yarn will yield bigger chicken, a thinner yarn will yeild smaller chicken. I made this chicken few times from different thicknesses and all was good. (Actually I never used a sock or lace-y yarn)
