This pattern came from Knit.1 magazine. It was just terrible. What can one do when faced with something so comically hideous? Why, knit it of course!

This was done up as a Christmas present for one of my cousins in our family gift exchange. The following year I received a calender featuring said cousin wearing these on every page. Said cousin recently ran off to the other side of the country with an ex-convict. I hope these things are unrelated.*

Um, notes on the pattern: It’s really easy. Uh, I didn’t do the crochet edging, instead I did an applied I-cord edging in Fun Fur because they weren’t awful enough. Also, the one-size-fit-none way the pattern is written allows for your butt to hang out the bottom of the shorts. Of course, no one will notice this since they will have been blinded by the agony of looking upon the Overalls of Shame.

This may be my favorite project ever.

Update! My cousin did come back from that little adventure and does not blame the overalls. All is right with the world once again.

Even newer update: My cousin made a new calender this year featuring the overalls and the “Christmas Turban” (you probably don’t want to know) and so I’ve added a few more recent pictures. She has requested that next Christmas we complete this ensemble with a cape. I think also there will be boots or something, at some point in the future but who knows.
