WELCOME BACK, Sock yarn blanket!!! WOO! Yes, I have finally got my knitting mojo back and after hammering out a couple FOs I have settled back into knitting my little rainbow coloured squares once more. Feels great.

192 blocks. SO CLOSE TO 200!!
___________

189 blocks. Working more steadily on this again. Looking awesome.

2015-05-18
163 blocks. 27 per 2 rows (14 + 13). 162 to the upper right hand dark purple square row. Feels great to be making progress on this again!

2015-05-04
151 blocks. Slowly chipping away. Didn’t work much on it for a bit because I started a new project (Fellowship of the shawl) but getting back at it now.

126 blocks. Blanket is wider now, and glad I did it. A bit of a pain in the ass adding on to the side and then filling it to align with the rest but worth it. Wider is better. Now to get back to making it longer…

I have decided to make the blanket a bit wider. I am sorely tempted to make it wide enough to fit a queen size bed but for now I have widened it to fit a twin with some overhang.

100 blocks… I think. My counting is getting sloppy. I’m still really hesitant to work on any other projects because I feel like if I “take a break” from this project I may never get back to it and finish.

78 (I think). Have 4 big blocks now. Really looking good.
________
2015-03-19
Trying to even things up a bit on the blanket. I went all pointy and asymetrical because I wanted to put another big block in on one side, but now I am going to even things back up now.

Need to recount, but I think I am around 75 blocks now.

67 blocks. Made a 3rd big block and wove in most of the ends do far. Can’t seem to get a true picture of the project.

60 blocks equivalent. Loving how it is looking! Need to add more big blocks though. I also sort of want a properly neon yellow/green yarn just to shake things up. Colours are mostly a bit muted. It does look lovely as is, but the odd block in neon yellow would just be awesome.

44 blocks equivalent. Happy birthday to me, got some sock yarn from my parents as a gift, lovely Opal stuff.
Blanket is currently about 4 feet across. Not sure if that is wide enough because I don’t know if I want it bed sized or lap blanket sized.

Much progress made, loving how it is looking. I have 33 blocks done (I am counting the big blocks as 4). I haven’t bothered to decide exactly how big I want this, therefore I have no idea how many blocks I am going to need. I’m just sort of going with it. I know I want it to be at least little wider than it is now, possibly a lot wider. I also received a package from a fellow Raveller with some sock yarn and WOW are they awesome. I cannot believe how generous people are. I think I am going to wind all the sock yarns I have (including my own) into mini-skeins and share the wealth with others looking to make a project like this.

restarted the blanket in order to have the squares all aim in the same direction. Extremely glad that I did because it looks much nicer now. I didn’t frog what I had already knit but instead turned it in to a super weird little bag.

Freg, I am enjoying this project. I love watching it grow and mutate. It is a bit of a “so ugly it’s beautiful”, which is a good thing in my books. I love this project in the same way that I love rainbow bit canned frosting. It is disgusting and tacky but so wonderful.

One thing that bares mentioning… So I am apparently a jackass because I have made exactly zero effort to ensure that all my squares are pointing in the same direction. My squares are all higgledy-piggledy and pointing every which way. I’m a bit on the fence whether I will regret this, whether this will detract from the finished piece. I looked at others’ finished blankets with their squares all pointing in the same direction, and they look great, but I’m not convinced mine will look that much worse for being less organized. I mean, seriously, this blanket is about randomness… right?
_____
2015-02-18 16 small, 2 big. 6 small blocks as yet not attached to main blanket yet.
_____
2012-02-17: 12 small blocks, 2 big blocks
I seamed 4 small squares together to make a larger block. Looks good but what a pain in the ass. Decided to try the seam as you go technique and it frankly works great, so I do believe I will be doing it that way from now on. I don’t like that I’m going to have to deal with the blanket as a whole while I work, but such is life.
I also decided I really like the big blocks for some of my yarns, especially the ones with the longer colour transitions (Mille Colori, Drops Delight) so there will likely be more than just a couple big blocks.
__
2012-02-16 : 11 small blocks, 1 big block

Small block: 31 stitches
Big block: 61 stitches

I’ve decided to give up on trying to like knitting socks, and am instead going to use awesome sock yarn for making this blanket. I have decided to make all the blocks THEN seam them together to ensure randomness.

Tremendous thank you to the following ravellers who helped to supply me with sock yarn for this project!
