Made this turtle to go with my ‘Ocean Swirl Baby Stroller Blanket’ as a gift for a friend’s baby.

I used the 4.0mm hook for the octagon and made up an octagon in a plain colour for the belly. To keep the stuffing from poking out of any holes, I wrapped it in a thin fabric before stuffing the body. I left one side of the body open to place the head.

Centre is cream, then light grey, turquoise, the same grey/brown as the belly and flippers then the ‘Ocean Swirl’ yarn for the outer round….I then worked a round of reverse sc around the edge of the top shell octagon.

Head;
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in magic ring.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around.
Rnd 3: (inc, 1sc in next st) x 6.
Rnd 4: (inc, 1sc in next 2 sts) x 6.
Rnd 5: (inc, 1sc in next 3 sts) x 6.
Rnd 6: (inc, 1sc in next 4 sts) x 6.
Rnd 7: (inc, 1sc in next 5 sts) x 6.
Rnd 8: (inc, 1sc in next 6 sts) x 6.
Rnds 9–13: 1sc in each st around.
Rnd 14: (dec, 1sc in next 6 sts) x 6.
Rnd 15: (dec, 1sc in next 5 sts) x 6.
Rnd 16: (dec, 1sc in next 4 sts) x 6.
Rnd 17: (dec, 1sc in next 3 sts) x 6.
Rnd 18: (dec, 1sc in next 2 sts) x 6.
Rnd 19: (dec, 1sc in next st) x 6.
Rnd 20: dec x 6, finish off.
Sculpt face with a few stitches to form eye dents and a smile. Use black thread, beads or buttons for eyes. Sew head pushed part-way into the open neck gap of the shell.

Tail;
3.5mm hook
4sc in a magic ring.
Rnd 1: 1sc in ea st around.
Rnds 2-7: inc, 1sc remaining sts.
Finish off. Flatten tail, stitch in place at back of turtle - on the side opposite the opening you’ve left for the head.

Flippers;
4.5mm hook.
Make 4 - I used same colour as the belly.
10hdc in a magic ring.
Rnd 1: 2hdc in ea st around.
Rnd 2: (1hdc, 2hdc in next st) around.
Rnd 3: (1hdc in next 2sts, 2hdc in next st) around.
Finish off. Fold circle in half and stitch together along the open edge - attach to under-side of turtle.
