Notes

Obtained pattern book from the library and cast on in preparation for something easy to knit during an upcoming bus journey to Brighton. There is a very similar free version of this pattern here, and an old shale lace one here. Made “magic balls” from left overs and scraps of yarn tied together.

At Brighton I heard about a brave and inspiring lady who is posting photos of herself each day in amazing headgear, raising awareness of breast cancer, and raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, while undergoing treatment herself. I left this in Brighton for Sara Cutting aka Chemo Snood Head, Fizzy Snood, or Sara Snood, hoping it may help with her daily different headgear challenge.

14 March 2015: So happy to see that Sara has surpassed her aim of raising £10,000! …

31 March 2015: Both Sara and I were thrilled to see this in the Eye Candy on the front of Ravelry. Thank you so much, and thank you for all the kind comments and support.

13 April 2015: The still brave and amazing Sara is half way through her new challenge.

Below are some of the ways that she has helped raise awareness of the condition through the media….

28 August 2016. Sara is continuing with her challenge, and adds a little joke to the photos. She has appeared with celebrities including Dame Judy Dench. She has now raised £18,178 or $238

June 2018: Sara is now training for the New York marathon.

Decided it wasn’t going to drape well enough for a scarf so made it into a cowl, that could possibly be pulled up into a hat like this one.

It doesn’t make a very good hat, but folds naturally along the chevron edges into a nice stretchy headband, (see photos).

Circumference approx 14 inches (36 cms)
Length approx 21 inches (53 cms)

Have just read that make one instead of yarn over makes a denser fabric. May try that next time, although the one I made is pretty dense.

Would like to make another scarf with these colours for foreground and background…
