(I know it’s not knitting or weaving or spinning).

I am doing an online course with Dijanne Cerval - wonderful inspiring work ( follow my blog posts to find out information about her amazing works).

Its a leap of faith for me….not so much in creating a quilt/blanket, but to take my time with something. Make my mark on something slowly and with purpose…..a Saori type of thought process…..to create without boundaries, to not think too much, to not worry about the end result.

The challenge to is take time, embroider sections as I want to, and how I feel, but let the fabric and the marks tell the story.

My blanket is inspired by living near a lovely coastline of water. I grew up near the beach, formative lessons of life learnt in close proximity to the beach. I now find I’ve returned to the same beach to live….and this is reflected in my blanket.

I collected rocks from the beach, took them home and bound them into the piece, with the majority of them down the bottom of the piece, heavy, then getting lighter and lighter towards the top. A bit like life I guess…

I dyed the fabrics with purpose. Darker at the bottom of the fabric, light towards the top and plan on embroidering around and within the circles.

When I shake out the blanket I have heaps and heaps of little tie died shiboried circles. Ready to be embellished or not. They thin out and eventually towards the top of the blanket they aren’t there….a wonderful ‘mistake’ where I tied the blanket up to hold it out of the dye made the most wonderful tide mark on the very top of the blanket.

Funny - but when I put it on my lap I have to have it on me this way - heavy circles down the bottom - waves up the top.

My embroidery is not good and this project is a nice and slow one. I’m in no rush to do it and only pick it up when I feel like it. Loving that.
