Notes

Another everyday sweater to supplement Lopapeysa and Røff Tunika. This one is knit in Drops Karisma, and I am far less happy with that than the Sandnes superwash yarns I have used for the previous sweaters (Smart & Mor Aase Superwash).

Modifications (Many are the same as Lopapeysa)

  • Knitting on smaller needles for a gauge of 26 sts/10 cm.
  • Knitting the ribbing in the neck even shorter: Cast on in contrast color, k 1 round in MC, then k1, p1 for 4 rounds in MC
  • All the increases are done before the start of the stranded knitting. 2 sts less than in the original pattern.
  • Different pattern for the yoke. It’s inspired by Stasis.
  • Different numbers for sleeve division: Back 68 sts, sleeves 60 sts, front 82 sts. 14 sts under sleeve
  • Cast on under sleeve with provisional cast on, and then knit the sleeves from live stitches so there will be no seam or bind off under the arm.
  • Princess seams in the back to make the sweater even more fitted: placed markers 23 sts from underarm sts on each side of the back (22 sts between markers). Decreases 1 st on the inside of the markers (so that the middle panel decreased) every 8 rows a total of 7 times.
  • Shortrows and increases in the bust: Knit 6 rows from sleeve division. Placed markers on the sides of the front (before underarm sts). Knit short rows until 2-4-6-8-10 sts remained on each side. At the same time I increased 6 sts evenly on the first short row. Knit 8 rows of stochinette, and then decreased 6 sts evenly over the front.
  • Increased for hips after the waist: on each side of 14 underarm sts inc one every 6 rows.
  • Sleeve decreases: Decreased 2 sts with 14 sts between at the following intervals: Decrease round 1-5: Decrease every 10 rounds. Decrease round 6-11: Decrease every 15 rounds.

Progress
Tried a pretty complicated pattern on the yoke first, but had to rip it, as it didn’t turn out well at all.
Dec 20th: Cast on
Dec 23rd: Was almost done with the pattern when I decided to rip back to before the pattern and start again. I originally planned to make 3 increase rounds, knit the pattern and then make 2 more increase rounds, but decided that it would fit better if all the increase rounds came before the pattern.
Jan 14th: Divided for sleeves.
Jan 30th: Almost done with body, but it got too tight over the hips. Ripped up to the waist and proceeded with more frequent increases.
Feb 15th: Finished body. Picked up sts on the yoke and ripped out the top of the yoke. It got too loose and the increases weren’t pretty. Redoing the yoke bottom up, and removing the top row of diamonds.
Feb 19th: Finished yoke. I forgot knitting short rows for the neck. Tried it on for the first time with the whole body done and it fits perfectly. YES! I’ve been a little hesitant about this sweater after having to rip it so many times, but now I’m feeling very positive. I have exactly 1 skein of yarn for each sleeve. Really hoping that’s going to be enough!
Feb 21st: I’m about half way down the sleeves, and it’s not going to be enough yarn. Placed an order for a couple of extra skeins from Nordic Mart.
Feb 27th: Skeins arrived a couple of days ago. Doing a couple of rows of interchanging old and new dye lot, they’re luckily very, very similar.
Feb 29th: Knit the last stitch.
