I have no fascination with Saxon queens, and so I decided to name mine after another strong Saxon woman: Marion of Leaford. In the version of Robin Hood that I tell to my niece, when the Sheriff of Nottingham is distracted by Marion’s bargain to marry him in exchange for Robin’s life, she takes her sword and cuts off the Sheriff’s head. Because a woman doesn’t have to wait for her man to rescue her, especially when she can rescue him.

Marion of Leaford is the name give the infamous woodland queen in the 80s TV series Robin of Sherwood

In starting the lace section from the cuffs, I chose to start on row 3 of the pattern, because, with the increases, every RS row is row 3. Since that row starts with k2, it allows me to neatly slip the addition CO stitch and then anchor it with a knit before doing a YO.

I ended up making the smallest size the pattern had to offer, wondering if it might be too small, but it fit so perfectly as I was making it that I was pleased. I completely forgot that it would increase in size with blocking, especially since the lace opens up so much. Now it feels a size or two too big (as can be seen in the pictures) and hangs loosely at the back. Apart from that, I am very please with this knit. It’s that perfect weight for spring and a nice accent to any outfit.
