Notes

I love this sweater!!!!

Pattern calls for size 7 needles, I used sizes 3 & 4 because I love the resulting fabric.

I followed the chart instructions, which show the cityscape in dark gray; the sky and lights in light gray. This is the reverse of the written instructions. The difference between the two sets of instructions confused me, but I’m happy with my decision.

This was first completed on April 29, 2012, but needed modifications because the negative ease was not comfortable and not a good look for the NY skyline! FINALLY completed and ready for wear on September 22, 2012.

Front: CO 120 st on size 3 needles ; knit 5 rows stockinette for a rolling hem; switched to size 4’s for the charted section.

Widthwise, started using the size small chart (CO 120 stitches), but lengthwise, started on row 6.

Around row 18, I put the stitches on waste yarn and measured; it was about 19”, which is between a small and medium. It seemed that would be a little snug, so I added 5 stitches at the beginning and end of the row - 130 stitches.

Later I was able to make a rectangle 5 st by 18 rows and attach it via mattress stitch to the front. It’s not really noticeable, especially since I then picked up 228 stitches at the bottom and added a corrugated ribbing.

Back: CO 95 stitches.

Neck: Picked up 91 stitches in light gray on the front only; knit in stockinette for 4 rows; BO. Tacked down the edges of this to the dark gray neck.

I needed to add some width to the bust area, so finally decided to add strips of stockinette fabric (gussets) to each side. Each strip is 9 stitches wide; made one for each the right and left front and the right and left back. In order to estimate how it would fit, I first basted in sections of t-shirt material on each side.

The last 4 pics show the gussets basted in.
