Notes

Cast on 54 sts with US size 7 and work 2x2 rib for 2.5 to 3 inches. Change to size 8 needles. Increase 2 sts on the first round of cable pattern. Total 56 sts. Continue in cable pattern for desired length minus 1.5 to 2 inches. Reduce 2 sts on last row of cable by doing two k2tog a few stitches inside the two side margins. End with 2x2 rib over 54 sts using Size 8 needles (not size 7). That way it is loose enough to fit my daughter’s calf (she is skinny).

If I make this again I would use a different yarn as the Monte Donegal, I am finding out a bit late, is not as strong as I’d like it to be. Or maybe cast on and cast off with yarn held double. Otherwise very happy with the results. Fits my daughter perfectly.

Update October 2019: With wear these have stretched and now they fit my not so slim legs quite well! The yarn is not the most appropriate for the project, as mentioned earlier. It did not tear; it is pretty strong. However it fuzzed and pilled a LOT.
