Notes

27Feb2010: Ok, so the body of the mitten was too long, so I ripped it back. I started ssKp and k3tog decreases on the second to last row of the flower motif. That shortened it up perfectly. Revised photo somewhere in there, but the other ones are so pretty, I’m leaving them there, too!

19Feb2010: I changed the thumb to look more like the front flower by taking a piece of the motif. I’ve re-charted it if you’d like to print it out and follow it. I also start the decreases a bit earlier (see chart) because I found the thumb to be too long.

18Feb2010: Tip: For the front of the mitten, end the top decreases with a ssk in the contrast color instead of the background color. It melds better with the contrast color edge.

30Jan2010: My thumb hole is not very generous. My 11 st cast-on was probably too tight because I have 3-colors threaded into it. I’ll have to be super loose with the next mitten’s thumb hole.

27Jan2010: To be consistent with thickness I probably should carry the 3-colors the whole way up, but… there’s a reason fair isle is only in two colors on any line!

Really -- it’s not that 3-color fair-isle is probably not that difficult if you are using all 3 colors all the time. That would be ok. But it’s the carrying of one color on one side and another color on the other side that makes it drudgery.

I wanted to use up the rest of my red and white Polish yarn left from these mittens. But not enough red. So, I thought I’d do the red rose/green leaves look with a ball of Yorkshire Tweed 4-ply that doesn’t fit in this sweater. Phew. Will it work?

It requires 3-color fair-isle. Mmm. Not fun, really. Though I’m getting into the groove. I only have to do it for the leaves and then I can shoot ahead with the 2-color flower.
