Experimenting with variations.
For seamless wrist:
23 rows of 12 hdc in blo. One row of sc. Bring up start chain to back of work so that current row overlaps ch. One row of surface crochet through flo of sc and ch to join (i.e. slip stitch but with the yarn held at back of work)
Alternative thumb join:
on sc round (round before joining round in pattern), sc up to last shell, fsc 4, join past first shell of next round. The join is now just to the left of the thumb and is not very noticeable so you can do both hands the same.
When making thumb, start in right hand corner and finish sc round, then continue round with shells.

Alternative thumb join:
one shell from end of round, start fsc by going into sl st to pull up joining loop. fsc 4. pull up loop in fsc as if to make another stitch, insert hook into st below sc at beginning of second shell of round (i.e. skipping two shells for thumb hole) pull yarn through sc and one loop on hook. This is anchoring the sc in the same place as the existing sc. insert hook into sc normally (under the top two loops) and pull yarn through all loops on hook. You should now have a join that looks like part of the existing work.
The thumb part remains the same: join yarn in same stitch as first fsc anchoring stitch, complete that round with 4sc, then start working around in shells.
