27 Sept
This is my first real attempt to crocheting something since I was in Year 2. I am making it with my Class 5 daughter, who just finished hers at school. This one will be a late birthday present for her sister who is 9 and desperately wants one too!
Started with a small chain, perhaps 7 chains, and join into a circle.

Started crocheting around and around. I’m not sure what the stitch is called. I go straight into the next stitch (under both bars), pull through the yarn so I have two stitches on the hook. I then pick up yarn and crochet through two stitches.
We made a flat circle about the size of a dinner plate, by every now and then crocheting twice into one stitch, to prevent it turning up. After the desired size was reached, we started crocheting into every stitch only, and then to bend up, we skipped an occasional stitch.
OCT 8
Used half the circle to make the flap. Started decreasing about half way, and then finished with an edge.
Starting the straps, and have run out of wool! Will start on the lining for bag and straps while I wait for more wool!
NOV 19
Hooray! Finished!Ivy loves it! We did a twisty handle so she can hang it on the bag hook at school, and I crocheted a flower to cover up a curly bit on the flap.
The front pouch is my attempt at ripple stitch (thanks to Attic 24’s tutorial)
I also lined the straps and the inside with a light denim cotton and gingham zipped pocket, joined on with blanket stitch.
A very satisfying project!
