I made this simple rag rug loom to make throw rugs from old t-shirts. I made battens (swords) from yardsticks. I tried lots of different ideas for the shuttle and then I found the antique rag rug shuttle in https://www.etsy.com/shop/maverickson
and I bought it

See it in the pictures, it is perfect for my little homemade loom!
I received a wonderful surprise yesterday (May 12, 2014,) a handmade sword (batten) from Rick, Joyce, and Mike. They have the Handcrafters of El Paso LLP. I have posted the pictures here on this project page. A big shout-out to these special folks, here is their Etsy store link https://www.etsy.com/shop/HandCraftersofElPaso
The battens (swords) I made from the yardsticks seen in other pictures. I shaped with belt sander and palm sander, making one with rounded ends and the other with slanted ends. I used Ebony and Maple Minwax stain. See article here: http://maggiescornerdotorg.wordpress.com/2014/05/22/woode...
Update 8-2-15
I realized today this needs an update. This frame was when I was floundering around figuring out how to do basic weaving. I ended up moving this warp - partly woven - to backstrap loom bars. I learned alot from this experiment and although I had planned to make a rag rug I was able to salvage the project enough to make a handbag instead. See my blog post https://maggiescornerdotorg.wordpress.com/2014/03/03/the-... and there is a link on that post for the entire album of this experiment.
