First knit of Winterleaf. This is a small version of the pattern, more a shawlette.
Began lace right at the start, at the first option, but there are numerous options to start later and have a plain section first.
Did 6 repeats of the lace chart, and its more a shawlette in size at 10 x 46 cms at blocking. Another repeat would add another 20-30 cms in length.
This sample used 55g of the Twizzle, which is about 200m/220y.
A note on beads:
It’s hard to give an exact number because both charts are indefinitely repeatable. However, working on the bead count for the leaves, these are the amounts per repeat:
1st repeat -15 beads (assuming working all-over lace).
So assuming you start with the lace after you do two rows of set-up (so you have 17 sts to start the lace):
Through 10 rows: 17 beads
Through 20 rows: 55 beads
Through 30 rows: 114 beads
Through 40 rows: 194 beads
Through 50 rows: 295 beads
Through 60 rows: 417 beads
Through 70 rows: 560 beads
Through 80 rows: 724 beads
Through 90 rows: 909 beads
Through 100 rows: 1115 beads
(Thanks to Figarofigaro for these figures.)
The edging uses quite a lot less than this. I’d do a quick ‘advanced search’ in projects for your particular yardage to get an idea of how many repeats of each you might do.
One full repeat of the ending chart, makes a nicely ‘winter tree tracery’ sort of edging. Would be interesting to see this with another repeat of the edging too.
(Note to self: next time try silk and beads, and an extra repeat of each chart to make a slightly larger shawl.)
