I love giant heavy blankets, always have. I always used to look at pictures of nicely decorated homes with brightly colored afghans draped on the furniture and wish for a pile of them of my very own. Of course, they were typically on the spendy side so that didn’t so much happen. This was actually one of my very first crochet projects ever, started in 2000, because one of the first things that popped into my head after learning how to work with yarn was “BLANKETS!”. However, being that the scale was a quite a bit larger than any of my previous attempts, the yarn was not the cheapest (I used a lovely chunky washable wool blend… heaps of it), and my local store stopped carrying it halfway through my working on it, I didn’t actually finish it until years later, when I discovered I could order discontinued lots of yarn online. It is made of a row of single, a row of half double and a row of double, repeated over for an exceedingly long time. I think I used the 9MM hook since the yarn was so substantial. I had to leave this blanket back at my parents’ house when we moved to Finland, because it was too heavy and bulky to pack. I am determined to go back and get it one of these days.
