FGF KAL March/April 2016 (Convert sock pattern to fingerless mitts)

I used 33 grams of yarn to knit this pair of mitts on a 3mm Hiya Hiya circular needle using Magic Loop.

This is a pair of fingerless mitts knitted based on a sock pattern. To convert the sock pattern to fingerless mitts:

  1. I adjusted the number of c/o stitches to fit my hand
  2. I lengthened the 2 x 1 ribbing on the wrist cuff
  3. I placed the thumb gusset between two purl stitches
  4. I finished the finger end with 4 rounds of 2 x 1 ribbing

More detailed instructions:

Cast on 54 stitches using the German Twisted Cast On
Rnds 1-20: eight_spoked_asterisk︎K2, P1, repeat from eight_spoked_asterisk︎ to end of round

Begin working the skyp rib pattern for the leg.
Work Rnds 1-6

Rnd 7 (Increase Round), begin thumb gusset as follows:
Work 30 stitches in skyp leg pattern, pm, M1L, K2, M1R, pm, P1, then continue in skyp pattern to end of the round.
Rnds 8, 9, 10 continue in skyp pattern to marker, slip marker, knit to next marker, slip marker, P1, then continue in pattern.

Continue working in skyp pattern, working the increases every 4th round until there are 20 stitches between the markers. Knit 3 more rounds in skyp pattern, knitting the stitches between the markers. I ended on a round 6.

Next round, knit in skyp pattern to the first marker. Place the 20 thumb gusset stitches on waste yarn, cast on 2 stitches using backward loop cast on, then continue knitting in pattern.

Continue knitting the hand in the skyp pattern until it is 1/2-inch less than the desired finished length, ending on either a round 6 or a round 12.

Work 4 rounds of K2, P1 ribbing, then bind off. I used the sewn bind off.

For thumb:
Move the live thumb gusset stitches from the waste yarn to the knitting needle. Join yarn and pick up and knit 3 stitches along the cast-on stitches (23 stitches total).

Next round: Knit 20 stitches, then sl2k1psso (you are decreasing the 3 picked-up stitches to one stitch). You will have 21 stitches on your needle.

Knit one rounds plain.
Knit 6 rounds of K2, P1 ribbing. Bind off. I used the sewn bind off.

Weave in ends.
