My Inner Viking contains two patterns that both use traditional Nordic color work. These patterns also share other elements: both are worked in the round, are seamless and fitted. They are a great beginner’s into into color work as the motif is 8 stitches wide and uses only two colors.

This hat is based on a well known mathematical symbol of intersecting circles that makes an appearance in many cultures and many contexts. The sheer simplicity of this motif makes it perfect for the first time colorwork project. It’s knit in light sport yarn to make a perfect winter to spring transition hat.

This pattern is a DK sibling of lucky no 7 featuring color switch and a different decrease which gives it a crisper look. Since DK is the double weight of fingering, I couldn’t resist the cheesy name but it’s bold and graphic look works well with it!

Rainchaser set uses a deceptively simple mosaic pattern where only one color is worked at any given point to create an illusion of stranded knitting.Three colors are used for a gentle ombre effect - I used my ever favorite cream to grey transition but this would work equally well for more colored choice.
