The tradition of covering your hair in public is one of modesty, and also keeping a private space that is just between the woman and her partner and G-d. A piece of her that belongs to only herself and those whom she loves most. A part that is not shared with the rest of the world, unable to be judged or mocked.

Maccabee, directly translated, means “Hammer”. However, that is not what will come to mind to any Jewish person who hears it.

One of the concepts that we learn as young children in Hebrew School is “Tzedakah”, Charity. Also translated as “justice”. The concept is simple, when a person is given pocket money, some of that goes into the Tzedakah box. At the end of a year, the money collected in the box would be donated to a cause.
