Raised in Scotland
Made in Yorkshire
Designed and developed by Kate Davies, Buachaille is a 100% wool yarn with bags of Scottish character. From the Northern Isles through the Highlands and Borders, the finest Scottish fleeces have been expertly selected, graded, and blended to create a unique and distinctive yarn -- a yarn as hardy and beautiful as the landscape in which it was raised. Buachaille is a 2-ply, worsted-spun * yarn, with a light, smooth hand, good stitch definition, and an attractive “halo”. It is a robust and highly versatile “woolly-wool”, and can be knit at tighter or looser gauges to suit a wide range of projects, from socks to shawls.
Buachaille is composed of quality Shetland and Cheviot fleeces (at approximately 80 % Shetland / 20% Cheviot proportions). All fleeces are Scottish, and all processing (scouring, spinning, dyeing) was carried out in West Yorkshire.
Buachaille is the Scottish Gaelic term for herdsman or shepherd, and is also associated with two beautiful mountains close to Kate’s home in the Scottish highlands (Buachaille Etive Mor and Buachaille Etive Beag).
*) worsted-spun refers to the yarn’s processing method and not its weight, which is sport or light DK.
