From The Fibre Co.
Tundra, began life as the search for the answer to a simple question, “If The Fibre Co. were to create a bulky yarn, what would it be?” Our answer came from our passion for all natural fibre content that add depth and softness to hand mades. We took a much loved formula of baby alpaca, merino and silk and worked it into a 2 ply that gives a pleasing, well-rounded appearance.
The result is a plump skein with a great hand feel and a light airiness that sets it apart as a bulky yarn. Accessories and garments enjoy a light weightless feel with all the enveloping warmth you’d expect from such an ample yarn. Hand knits evoke a feeling of richness that sits gently against the skin without that cumbersome bulk that can drag the wearer down as they wrestle into Winter boots and coats. Tundra is an antidote to the heaviness we associate with layers of blankets, sweaters and waterproofs.
Our generous Tundra hanks make for warm and lofty single skein accessories, or just a few skeins allow the creation of delightfully warm and soft garments. When developing the colours for Tundra, we wanted to add some pops of new and vibrant colours that bring joy to otherwise grey, overcast days. Looking at the Artic landscape for inspiration we noted bright flashes of colour that are a surprise or shock. These surprising flashes of colour were often nestled amongst cool tones and wintry neutrals that seemed fitting for such our cool weather range. So alongside some of our well established natural tones, we’ve added rich brights that truly shine with the luminescent quality of Merino and Silk. Tundra is a yarn for delighting in as you work up fast and pleasing handmades that add just the right flavour to Winter days.
