I’m truly a Minnesotan today, and originally I hail from Michigan. I have been an avid crafter since I could reach the peddle of my mom’s Singer sewing machine…

I picked up hand knitting in 2002, two nights before moving to Minneapolis. I didn’t know anyone in town, so I spent my non-corporate time trying to make sense of the clicking of the sticks. Thank goodness I finally figured it out.

In 2005, a friend and co-worker surprised me with a special birthday gift - her old knitting machines. A standard gauge Brother 890 punchcard with 850 ribber, as well as a Bulky Super 8. She hadn’t touched them in years, and (I guess) finally grew tired of hearing me go on and on about wanting a knitting machine.

My first machine knit project was a sock monkey prom dress, created for a May 2006 fashion event at the Walker Art Center. This fully lined gown featured 30 faces encircling the skirt, each named after the students, designers, and models involved in the production. (I also designed and knit a number of spin-off sock monkey themed apparel and home items including a sock monkey chair and bikini.)

Today, I toggle between my Brother knitting machines: 890, 940, 970, 355, and 270. Because how many machines are TOO MANY?! My machine knitting love and knowledge continues to grow, and I am so thrilled to connect with so many machine knitters worldwide!

I am also the co-author of the Storey Publishing One-Yard Wonders book series. Maybe you’ve seen it? They seem to sell like hotcakes!

If I’m not making, I’m not happy. So I’m always making!
