I had to have knee surgery in April 2004. It was a quick recovery and I only needed to take it easy for a weekend, but that was long enough for me to get bored. The first night after the surgery, I was on the couch at my parents’ and called out “Mom (Speattle)! I’m bored! Teach me how to knit!” The older sister of my then-boyfriend, now husband, was about eight months pregnant, so Mom helped me make a lavender baby blanket for my eventual-niece. It turned out…sort of hexagonal.

Since then, I’ve learned to make projects in the shapes they should be. I did briefly forget how to knit and somewhat re-taught myself, ending up learning to purl left-handed. This can useful: if I’m doing a simple-enough pattern, I can just go back and forth without having to flip the project over at the end of a row.

For the record, should you knit a project from my pattern and want to sell your finished item, I have no problem with that. I designed the pattern, but the finished item is YOUR work!
