From Weldon’s Practical Needlework, Volume 8, this 6-row pattern is the original edging for Weldon’s “Dahlia d’Oyley”. (I converted the doily to “Weldon’s Dahlia Hexagon” in another Ravelry post.) The edging starts with 9 stitches with a maximum of 17 stitches in a couple of rows. (It knits up fast!) Weldon states: “This edging is very pretty for trimming underlinen and for children’s pinafores and aprons.”
The edging is 1.75” wide at the points when knitted to gauge and can be blocked curved or straight.

Skills needed: long-tail cast on, slip purl-wise, knit, purl, yarn over, k2tog, (slip 2 knit-wise, k3tog, pass the 2 slipped stitches over the k3tog) and bind off in purl stitch.

Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check size and appearance.

8 yards of #10 crochet cotton thread will make about 36 rows (3 inches) in the stated gauge.
