Sun is shining today, and I’m soon off for a long walk! But, despite of the sunrays, I still need a hat! I wanted a light-weight hat for exactly this kind of weather; almost like a city-hat….

Construction
The hat is worked bottom-up and in-the-round, starting from a ribbed brim, followed by the main-body in stranded pattern and the shaping of the crown.

Materials
Yarn: I used Sandnes Garn ”Mini Alpakka”. This yarn is of fingering weight, and comes in balls of 50gr/1.76oz and 150m/164yards. You will need 1 ball of MC – Main Color (beige), and 1 ball of each of the Contrasting Colors: CC1 (brown), CC2 (ocean green), CC3 (ochre). You only need tiny amounts of CC2 and CC3. It is tempting to find yarn in your stash, please make sure that they have the same weight as MC and CC1. You can use a similar yarn that knits up to gauge. Needles: For the ribbed brim you need a circular needle, 40cm/16” (or larger, if working the magic loop), size 2.5mm/US1.5, for the main-body of the hat you need a circular needle 40cm/16” (or larger, if working the magic loop), size 3mm/US2.5. A set of dpns 3mm/US2.5 for the shaping of the crown. Notions: 1 removable stitch-marker. Or, if you want to place markers between each pattern-repeat: 8 removable stitch-markers (make sure that the beginning of the round marker is different from the others).

Gauge 30 sts and 36 rounds in stranded knitting = 10x10cm/4x4”

Size The hat is one-size. Worked at gauge the circumference is 48cm/19”, the height from cast-on to top of crown = 25cm/10”.
Sizing might be modified by changing gauge.

The pattern
Easy to follow with measurements in cm’s and inches. The entire pattern-repeat, as well as the shaping of the crown, are charted.
If you can master the stranded knitting and following a color-chart no particular skills are needed.

Errata (free downloads only): cast on using CC1.
Main body of the hat: change to needles 3mm/US2.5
