Welcome to A Morning in Amsterdam - Windmills by the Sea. This is the long awaited sequel to Midnight in Paris - Lavender Fields!!! I wanted to design patterns to remember my travels to Europe. As life would have it, it has taken more than a year to get to this new pattern. It is not exactly what you would expect from my previous patterns, but I think you will find it versatile and will suit many needs. You can knit this as I have for a table runner or table center or you can knit it as a scarf by repeating some of the charts.

This pattern begins with a provisional cast on and a center motif that is knitted only one time. You then continue on the same side to knit a second motif and an edging. After casting off, you will return to your provisional cast on and repeat what you di on the other side.

I recommend that you read the instructions first, then begin with your cast on and knitting. As with all my patterns, I use color-coded symbols so that you can follow the design elements.

The designs shown here are Estonian in origin and some have been modified to fit the stitch number need for the table runner. There is an optional crocheted border after binding off the 2nd half of the design.

As with many Estonian motifs, the center has many nupp. Almost 150 nupps are made in the 45 by 78 row motif. Okay, I know that it scary to some of you…so if you don’t like nupps, you can add in beads instead. (Personally, I dislike adding beads, but so many of you do this with was, so if it is your specaility, go right ahead and add them with your favorite method. I’d love to see the results!) I will include information on “How to Knit a Nupp” at the end of the pattern.

Gauge is really not that important for this project. My finished runner is 12 inches by 51 inches. You can use any lace weight, fingering, sport, etc. I am an extremely loose knitter. So your runner may be a little larger or smaller than mine. Use what you have in your stash…you can use one color or two…even variegated would be fine.

There is a mistake in chart 2A Double Waterlily. Rows 23 and 25 have been changed.

You can see the color picture of the chart here, just scroll down.

I will be putting in a new PDF of the entire pattern, but for now, you should be able to copy the picture and print it…let me know if you need any help.
