Achelois Scarf is part of the Knit for the Girls 2026 ‘Down Under’ Pattern Collection.

Launching 1st October, the Knit for the Girls 2026 ‘Down Under’ Pattern Collection brings together some of our beloved Australian knitwear designers and hand-dyers, in support of the Knit for the Girls breast cancer research fundraiser. Discover six brand-new accessory patterns which have been designed in exclusive, pink-inspired colourways by some of our favourite ‘down under’ indie dyers. During October 2026, 20% of the Achelois Scarf pattern sales will be donated to the official Knit for the Girls fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation Australia, supporting breast cancer research.

I have partnered with Tess from Fluff and Nonsense, who has created kits in this gorgeous Siren Song Colourway on her merino SIlk Yak base. These will also be available on October 1.

Achelois is the name of a Greek goddess of healing, the name means: “she who washes away pain”.

This crescent-shaped scarf is a beginner-friendly one-skein wonder. It features easy-to-memorise stitch patterns, and the design looks great in both variegated and solid colours.

380 m / 414 yds of 4ply / Fingering weight wool or wool blend yarn with good drape.
The sample is knit with Fluff & Nonsense Merino Silk Yak singles in colourway Siren Song (65% Merino, 20% Silk, 15% Yak, 480 m / 523 yds – 120 g).

Needles
3.5 mm / US4, 80 cm / 32, or longer, circular needles.

Notions
Tapestry needle, locking stitch marker (optional).

Gauge
16 sts and 48 rows = 10cm / 4” on 3.5mm / US4 needle in
Seed Stitch worked flat, measured from relaxed fabric
after blocking.

Design notes
This scarf is worked flat and in one piece from the top centre of the crescent down to the lace edge.
The body of the scarf alternates seed stitch and eyelet sections, while the edging features a 4-row lace pattern.
The bobble bind-off adds interest and a bit of weight to ensure an effective drape.
