Do you have scraps of yarn leftover from an advent calendar (or calendars!) that are too beautiful to throw away, but too small to use in another project? Or do you want to make something small and quick with your advent calendar during the busy advent season, saving most of your yarn to use on a big project later? Enter: The Advent Snake! Ssssss!

Having designed several advent patterns over the years, I know that they often leave leftovers. This is because advent calendars have very small quantities of yarn, and designers generally don’t want to risk people running out and being unable to complete the pattern. This advent snake is designed to make sure none of your precious yarn goes to waste. It’s also the perfect project for people who are short on time but still want to make something each day with their calendar, or people who want to hold off on committing to a bigger project until they’ve seen the full colour reveal.

This pattern works beautifully with a fade, or stripes of different colours! The pattern can be made using DK weight yarn, or 2 strands of fingering weight yarn held double. Still on the fence about making this pattern? Because the colour changes are all on the inside of the snake, there is only one end to sew in when you’re done! ;)

This pattern uses only the most simple amigurumi stitches (US - sc, inc, dec, and ch/UK - dc, inc, dec, and ch) with photos included for extra support, making this pattern perfectly beginner-friendly, and very suitable as a relaxing project for a busy time of year.
